The three letters from the Hurracan STO came from the Super Trofeo Omologata, which meant a road-legal super sports car developed on the track.

One of the best automakers, Lamborghini discovered a technique to sell the same vehicle at several performance levels. Apart from the factory's management, no one was certain how many new versions of the same automobile would be produced. But it wasn't simply a new emblem on the dash and some gloss on the wheels. For instance, the STO was very competitive. It was the current quickest Lamborghini.

The Lamborghini Trofeo race, which the Italian automaker organized, served as inspiration. It was decided that installing a single bodywork component that consists of the hood and front fenders was a very smart concept, so they did it for the SFO and gave it the name "cofango." As a result, they were able to add additional air ducts to the front hood, improving cooling for the engine and increasing airflow through the radiator. A new front splitter was also added to the cofango, which directed airflow to the vehicle's freshly constructed underbody and rear diffuser. A new air-scoop was installed in the back to enhance cooling.

The Hurracan STO's interior used a lot of carbon fiber, including sport bucket seats made of carbon fiber and upholstered in Alcantara, to match the exterior's lightweight design. The carpets were replaced with carbon fiber floor mats to cut down on weight. A premium titanium alloy arch with four-point seatbelts was positioned behind the seats.

Lamborghini offered the Hurracan STO with a 640 horsepower V10 engine and improved the powertrain. It was coupled with a 7-speed automatic (dual-clutch) transmission that drove the vehicle's rear wheels.
